I recently worked with a very talented young lady in developing her resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile. When I say I worked on these career support entities, I did what I always do.
The talented young jobseeker made an appointment and came to my office. I interviewed her and she paid me for the resume and cover letter we decided I would write for her.
I wrote and emailed her the resume and cover letter drafts, per the contract she signed before leaving my office. I implemented changes to the resume and cover letter drafts per her request. I received her approval on both the resume and cover letter.
Per my process, she was now in a position to ask for an add-on service, the LinkedIn profile. I wrote her LinkedIn profile, emailed it to her as a draft, implemented the changes she requested, gained her approval, and thought we were good to go.
Not so fast.
My talented young jobseeker client calls me out of the blue and says, “My headhunter says the resume should look like …”
I am a Certified Professional Resume Writer / Career Coach who works for YOU. Each resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile I produce are my very own “works of art.” Each piece of advice I provide to YOU, my client, is derived from fact and based on many years of experience in the business. In short, I take my job and commitment to each and every client very seriously.
I am not a recruiter. I am not a headhunter. If you are reading this blog and you are one of the aforementioned, please explain to the person whose resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile you are critiquing that you are in the business of rewriting / rebranding my “works of art” to please YOUR clients – the people who pay your commission.
Simply put, my clients are jobseekers. My job is to please YOU, the jobseeker. I might add, I’m darn good at it!
To all, Happy Thanksgiving!
