Pulitzer Prize-Winning American Author John Steinbeck once wrote, “…we do not take a trip, a trip takes us.” Well, if you’ve been wondering where I’ve been since my last blog , I’ve been following Mr. Steinbeck’s advice and have been doing some traveling, along with my husband, seeing and learning about wonderful new places to visit. I have to say, it’s been pretty great and if our paychecks will allow it, we will be doing more traveling in the future. But you know what else is great? Knowing that we have come home to jobs we still love.

So, today’s blog is going to take us from traveling and learning to realizing that it’s never too late to love your job, especially if your job allows you to continue the learning process.

First some facts: nearly 53% of American workers say they are “unsatisfied” with their jobs compared to 15.4% who say they are “very satisfied” in their jobs, according to a business membership and research group called the Conference Board. That’s a sad commentary.

But there is a bright side to the story. You can fall back in love with your work. The secret, according to satisfied workers, is feeling in control. This means that having a job that offers you the opportunity to have some say in what goes on will make you feel better about your job and, just as importantly, about yourself. Perhaps you need increased flexibility in your schedule. Maybe you want more time to pursue professional development. How about the chance to expand your skills set?

I’ve been A Word’s Worth owner/writer/career coach since 1989. I still love my job and I’m confident I can help you rekindle that old spark!
